Wireless Technology – Benefits and Risks

Wireless communications offer organizations and end-users many benefits such as portability and flexibility, increased productivity, and lower installation costs. Our phones, laptops and PDAs provide us with access and instant portability to our personal and corporate information.  Various protocols have been developed and are currently being enhanced to provide greater range and speed. However, risks are inherent in any wireless technology as the airwave, is open to intruders, making it the logical equivalent of an Ethernet port in a public place. Unauthorized users may gain un-authorized access to systems and information, corrupt the corporate data, consume network bandwidth, degrade network performance, launch attacks that prevent authorized users from accessing the network, or use corporate resources to launch attacks on other networks.

Join us to a have a glimpse how this technologies work and what controls must be in place to address the security concerns.
